SteelBenchmarker: HRB Price Collapse Continues

The bi-monthly SteelBenchmarker™ World export HRB price for 9 March 2015 collapsed 7.1% to US$421 per metric ton for the tenth consecutive time. The United States HRB spot price plunged 5.0% to US$546 per metric ton for the eighth consecutive time. The Western European HRB price fell 2.4% to US$442 per metric ton (on a Euro basis, it rose 2.0%) for the second consecutive time. The Chinese HRB price declined 0.3% to US$349 per metric ton after rising last time.
 
USA – US$546 per metric ton (US$495 per net ton), FOB the mill – down US$29 per metric ton from US$575 (US$522 ton) two weeks ago, down US$91 from the recent low of US$637 (US$578 ton) on 27 May 2013 and down US$7 from the low of US$553 per metric ton (US$502 ton) on 23 November 2009. It is down US$424 per metric ton from the recent high of US$970 (US$880 ton) on 28 March 2011 and down US$657 (54.6%) from the record peak of US$1,203 per metric ton (US$1,091 ton) on 28 July 2008.
 
China – US$349 per metric ton, ex-works – down US$1 per metric ton from US$350 two weeks ago, down US$98 per metric ton from the recent low of US$447 on 10 September 2012 and down US$58 per metric ton from the low of US$407 per metric ton on 12 October 2009. It is down US$288 per metric ton from the recent high of US$637 on 22 August 2011 and down US$384 (52.4%) from the record peak of US$733 per metric ton on 14 July 2008.
 
Western Europe – US$442 (€408e) per metric ton, ex-works – down US$11 per metric ton from US$453 (€400e) two weeks ago (on a Euro basis, up €8), down US$148 (down €46) from the recent low of US$590 (€454) on 8 July 2013 and down US$129 (up €27) from the low of US$571 (€381) per metric ton on 23 November 2009. It is down US$410 (€197) per metric ton from the recent high of US$852 (€605) on 28 March 2011 and down US$762 (63.3%) (€348) (46.0%) from the record peak of US$1,204 (€756) per metric ton on 14 July 2008.
 
World Export Price – US$421 per metric ton, FOB the port of export – down US$32 per metric ton from US$453 two weeks ago, down US$111 per metric ton from the recent low of US$532 on 8 October 2012 and down US$75 from the low of US$496 per metric ton on 9 November 2009. It is down US$352 per metric ton from the recent high of US$773 on 14 February 2011 and down US$692 (62.2%) from the record peak of US$1,113 per metric ton on 28 July 2008.
