Steel Technology Group Seeks Cooperative Solutions to European Industry's Biggest Challenges

Called the European Steel Technology Platform (ESTEP), the new organization brings together 13 steel organizations and companies, including ArcelorMittal Maizières Research, Tata Steel Nederland Technology, thyssenkrupp Steel Europe and voestalpine Stahl. 

“I am pleased to announce that 13 leading industrial and research stakeholders from the wider steel value chain across Europe have been able to legally establish ESTEP as an international, non-profit organization under Belgian law,” said Klaus Peters, the new organization’s secretary general. 

The Steel Technology Platform will explore a variety challenges, including lowering carbon emissions, enabling digitalization and improving energy efficiency. 

“The current focus is on pursuing the ‘Big Scale Initiative,’ which brings together 12 projects by European steel producers looking at carbon-neutral steelmaking process,” the organization said in a statement.
