Steel Shipments Up 3.8% in July
09/18/2008 - U.S. steel mills shipped 9,175,000 net tons in July, a 3.8% increase from the 8,844,000 net tons shipped in July 2007 according to the latest report from AISI.
U.S. steel mills shipped 9,175,000 net tons in July, according to the latest report from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The report, which is based on the latest U.S. Census Bureau data, shows that the July total reflected a 3.8% increase from the 8,844,000 net tons shipped in July 2007 and a 0.4% increase from the 9,136,000 net tons shipped in the previous month, June 2008.
A year-to-year comparison of year-to-date shipments shows the following changes within major market classifications:
- Service centers and distributors, + 5.8%
- Automotive, - 3.9%
- Construction and contractors’ products, - 1.2%
- Oil and gas, + 5.4%
