Steel Shipments Dip Further Below ‘06 Levels in September
11/20/2007 - U.S. steel mills shipped 8,492,000 net tons of steel in September 2007, a 7.7% decrease from the 9,199,000 net tons shipped in September 2006.
U.S. steel mills shipped 8,492,000 net tons of steel in September 2007, according to the latest report from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The report, which is based on preliminary Census Bureau data, shows that September totals reflect a 7.7% decrease from the 9,199,000 net tons shipped in September 2006, and a 7.8% decrease from the 9,209,000 net tons shipped in the previous month, August 2007.
A year-to-year comparison of year-to-date shipments shows the following changes within major market classifications:
- Service centers and distributors, –11.6%
- Automotive, –1.0%
- Construction and contractors’ products, –2.9%
- Oil and gas, –8.5%
