Steel Recycler Expands Through Acquisition

Rivers Metals, a subsidiary of Nucor Corp.’s David J. Joseph (DJJ) scrap operation, announced in August that it would acquire the assets of Industrial Services for US$23.3 million.

Industrial Services had operated four metals recycling facilities in Kentucky and Indiana, including an automobile shredder and self-serve auto parts yard in Louisville, Ky. The company is dissolving following the sale.

Rivers Metals has 11 locations in Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, and Alabama, including automobile shredders in Newport and Louisville, Ky.

“The addition of these locations is consistent with DJJ’s strategy and the commitment to grow its regional recycling platforms. The acquisition also supports an expanding consumer base of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap customers in the region,” Rivers Metals said in a statement.
