Steel Processor to Move HQ, Plant Operations to Indiana
12/06/2018 - Flat-rolled steel processor Alliance Steel plans to spend US$19.7 million to move its headquarters from Illinois to Gary, Ind., USA.
“Northwest Indiana and Gary are making all the right moves to re-create a very promising industrial area, and Alliance Steel hopes to be one of the cornerstones that provides a track for this new cycle,” said Alliance Steel president and chief executive Andy Gross.
According to Indiana officials, the company will set up shop in a 250,000-square-foot facility just off Interstate 90. The site was once owned by Republic Steel.
Gross told Crain’s Chicago Business that the move will put the business closer to Indiana steel mills and lower freight costs. It also will allow Alliance to put its facilities under one roof. As it is now, the company currently is spread among three facilities in the Chicago area.
Alliance currently employs around 100 people, but plans to increase the payroll to about 130 over the next several years as it moves to grow sales. The new facility is to be up and running by 2020.
