Steel Processor Setting Up Shop at New SDI Mill
05/21/2020 - Steel processor JM Steel has unveiled a plan to build a facility at Steel Dynamics Inc.’s new flat roll mill in Sinton, Texas, USA.
According to JM Steel, the new facility will include three slitting lines capable of processing 30,000 tons of steel per month. The first line will have capabilities of 0.500 inch x 84 inches with thicknesses ranging from 0.050 inch to 0.500 inch. Capable of handling 105,000 lb. max coil weights, it will be the largest slitting line in the U.S.
JM will build out the facility over the next several years, with the plant and first slitting line to open by June 2021. Afterward, the company plans to add lighter-gauge slitter capabilities and additional value-added services such as laser cutting and press braking.
The new facility will also boast two roll-forming lines and a stamping press capable of producing 260,000 bolts per month to serve mining markets in Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Chile and Peru.
"The new location gives JM Steel Sinton excellent export opportunities to supplement its core ground control business of JENNMAR," the company said.
