Steel Processor Pushes Back Plant Closure
08/21/2015 - Cold-finished steel bar manufacturer Niagara LaSalle Corp. has postponed the closure of its Buffalo, N.Y., USA, facility until the end of August.
In May, the company said it would close the facility, which makes cold-drawn bar, by July, citing "persistent challenging conditions." But it has pushed the closure back until the end of this month for "production reasons," the company told WIVB-TV in Buffalo.
A filing with the New York Department of Labor indicates that 49 people will be laid off.
In a statement, a company spokesperson said that "becoming a leaner organization is necessary to better compete in today’s environment and ensure Niagara LaSalle’s long-term viability."
“We thank our employees and the community of Buffalo for their dedication and support over the years,” a company spokesperson told the television station. “We are working to facilitate underemployment and other related benefits for our workforce.”
