Steel Manufacturers Association Presents Iverson-Selig Award to Nucor’s Dan DiMicco
10/07/2013 - The Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) Board of Directors recognized Dan DiMicco, Nucor Corporation, as the recipient of the SMA Kenneth Iverson-Marvin Selig Award.
The award was presented at a ceremony during the SMA Board of Directors Interim Meeting, held in Charlotte, North Carolina.
SMA established the Iverson-Selig Award in 2000 to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the minimill steel industry, exemplifying the best values and qualities of Mr. Iverson and Mr. Selig. The award had only been give five times previously: to Kenneth Iverson, Marvin Selig, Phillip Casey, Keith Busse, and Don Daily.
SMA Chairman John Ferriola, chief executive officer, Nucor Corporation, presented the award to Mr. DiMicco, and thanked him for his notable contributions to the minimill steel industry, to Nucor, and to American manufacturing.
Mr. DiMicco joined Nucor Corporation in November 1982 as plant metallurgist and manager of quality control for Nucor Steel in Plymouth, Utah, and has since worked in a wide variety of roles at all levels of the company. He has served as executive chairman of Nucor since January 2013. Previously, Mr. DiMicco served as chairman of Nucor from May 2006 to December 2012, chief executive officer from September 2000 to December 2012, and president from September 2000 to December 2010. He also served as vice chairman of Nucor from June 2001 to May 2006, executive vice president from 1999 to 2000, and vice president from 1992 to 1999.
Prior to joining Nucor Corporation, Mr. DiMicco worked for Republic Steel Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio, as a research metallurgist and project leader. He graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials Science, and earned a Master of Science degree in Metallurgy and Materials Science from the University of Pennsylvania.
Richard Teets, vice chairman, SMA, and executive vice president, Steel Dynamics, stated, “This award is truly special, and is deservingly merited by Dan DiMicco. His leadership has been important to the success and growth of the U.S. minimill steel industry.”
SMA member companies account for over 75% of total U.S. steel capacity and utilize a feedstock almost entirely composed of recycled scrap metal to produce new steel.
