Steel Dynamics Inc.'s Mark D. Millett to Address Attendees at AISTech 2014

Hosted by the AIST president, Terry G. Fedor II, the President's Award Breakfast program will consist of the presentation of prestigious association-level awards, including AIST's Steelmaker of the Year.

Mark D. Millett assumed the position of president and chief executive officer of SDI effective 1 January 2012. One of the co-founders of SDI, Millett has held a variety of senior management positions and has served on the board of directors since the inception of the company in 1993. In August 2008, he was named executive vice president for metals recycling and ferrous resources, as well as president and chief operating officer of OmniSource Corp., the metals-recycling business SDI had acquired in late 2007. In addition, Millett led SDI ferrous technologies teams, creating and implementing both of SDI's ironmaking initiatives — Iron Dynamics and Mesabi Nugget. From 1998 to 2008, Millett was responsible for the company's flat rolled steel business, including the Flat Roll Division, the company's first and largest division, and The Techs, which was acquired and successfully integrated into the company in 2007. Prior to the formation of SDI, Millett was employed by Nucor Corp. for 12 years, serving in key technical and management roles, including the design, construction and operation of the melting and casting facility at the world's first thin-slab flat roll mini mill at Crawfordsville, Ind. He earned a bachelor's degree with honors in metallurgy from the University of Surrey, England.

The President's Award Breakfast is one of the signature events of AISTech 2014, North America's largest gathering of steel industry personnel. AISTech 2014 will be held 5–8 May at the Indiana Convention Center, Indianapolis, Ind., and will offer a program with hundreds of technical presentations, an expansive exposition, plant tours, a unique town hall forum and keynote presentations by today's business leaders.

The Technology Conference will showcase more than 450 presentations on aspects of iron and steel manufacturing technology. Highlights include the latest environmental technologies throughout the iron- and steelmaking process; advancements in rolling and coating technologies; safe work practices and procedures for projects, production and maintenance; cutting-edge research and advancements in the processing, product development and application of steel; the latest in automation and control systems; and discussions on efficient material movement both within the facility and to the customer.

The Exposition offers individuals a chance to meet face-to-face with key individuals who specify, purchase, design and operate a variety of plants and facilities associated with the production and processing of iron and steel. The 2014 Exposition is already the largest yet, with a total area of 283,200 square feet, and will feature more than 500 domestic and international companies for an unrivaled display of global steel technology.
