Steel Dynamics Chooses Fives for Process Line Upgrades

In a statement, Fives said the upgrades to the No. 2 galvanizing line are meant to boost the line’s maximum strip speed, thereby increasing capacity.

To that end, Fives said it is reconfiguring the entry section, installing new bridle rolls, deflector rolls and a burr masher. In addition, it is outfitting the cleaning section with a high-pressure hot water system and a new rinsing brush machine. Also, a new DMS rotary shear will be installed at the exit section, it said.

The upgrades are scheduled to be completed by November 2019.

The announcement comes as Steel Dynamics invests between US$230 million to US$240 million in enhancements to the Columbus mill. Among the improvements is the addition of a third galvanizing line, which is to come on-line in mid-2020.
