Steel Dynamics Announces Leadership Appointments in Flat Roll Group

Effective 1 February 2021, Dennis Black will assume the role of general manager of Steel Dynamics Inc. – Flat Roll Group Southwest-Sinton Division, SDI said in a statement.

Black has served as general manager of SDI’s Vulcan Steel Products Division since 2016. He has been a part of the SDI team since the construction of its first flat roll mill in 1994 and has served in a variety of engineering, operational and leadership positions, including hot strip mill manager of Flat Roll Group Butler Division and rolling mill manager and hot mill manager for the Structural and Rail Division. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

Over at SDI’s Flat Roll Group Columbus Division, vice president and general manager Madhu Ranade will take on new responsibility for iron and iron substitutes procurement for SDI’s flat roll operations beginning in the first quarter of 2021. Ranade has led the Columbus mill for seven years and boasts 43 years of steel industry experience. He holds a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, and a master’s degree in materials science and mineral engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

Stepping in as new general manager of the Columbus mill on 1 January 2021 will be Daniel Keown. Keown currently serves as general manager of SDI’s Engineered Bar Products Division, a position he has held since 2014. He joined SDI in 1998 as a process engineer at Flat Roll Group Butler Division and has taken on various leadership positions within the company since then. He earned both a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a master’s degree in engineering management from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
