Steel Dynamics, ThyssenKrupp Steel USA Receive Industry Awards

Steel Dynamics, Inc. was recently honored as "Steel Producer of the Year" as part of American Metal Market's second annual Awards for Steel Excellence in New York City.

Steel Dynamics was chosen for the award based on the company's achievement of operational excellence, its industry-leading 2010 financial performance in steelmaking, and its continuing progress in the strategic development of its raw materials platforms.

"We truly value this recognition afforded us by industry and AMM leadership," said Keith Busse, Chairman and CEO. "Everyone at SDI continually strives to excel and improve on past performance. This award is a measure of the respect we have received over time from our customers, suppliers, and other partners as a result of the hard work, dedication, and creativity of our 6000 employees, who have long been the key to our success."

"Steel Dynamics is a growth company, unique in American steel industry history,” continued Busse. “Since the production of our first steel coil 15 years ago, our focus has been not only to provide quality steel products to meet customer needs, but to also look ahead by developing and producing new products to fulfill customer requirements. At the same time, we have continued our emphasis on operational excellence and cost leadership.

“This formula has served us well,” concluded Busse. “We look to the future with confidence that SDI is prepared to make a continuing strong contribution to the American steel industry.”

In a related release, ThyssenKrupp Steel USA announced that it had been named as the winner for “Best Greenfield Technology” in AMM’s 2011 Awards for Steel Excellence.

"Once again, we have reason to be proud of the hundreds of ThyssenKrupp Steel USA Team Members who have committed so much of themselves personally and professionally to ensure our project's successful completion," said Scott Posey, Director of Communications."
