SSC Completes Construction of New Coil Center in Japan

SSC Co., Ltd. held an inauguration ceremony for its Tohoku Plant in the Esashi Frontier Park, Oushu City, Iwate, Japan, on Tuesday, 24 July at 10.30 a.m. The opening ceremony was attended by around 50 people including Iwate Governor Takuya Tasso, Oushu Mayor Masaki Ozawa, customers, and people involved in the construction.

SSC is a coil center that is owned and operated by Kanpoh Steel Co., Ltd., Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd., Sumitomo Corporation, and Sumikin Bussan Corporation. By establishing a new coil center in the Tohoku region, which is regarded as the third domestic manufacturing base of Toyota Motor Corporation, SSC aims to establish a steel sheet processing base that improves delivery times, reduces transportation costs, and stabilizes supply of steel sheet.

Based on SSC’s accumulated technological capabilities, the new plant will help reconstruct the Tohoku region, which was damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011, into a major manufacturing base in Japan.

The SSC Tohoku Plant has a slitter with the capacity to process 10,000 tons per month.

SSC Co., Ltd. is 51% owned by Kanpoh Steel, 19% by Sumitomo Metals, 15% by Sumitomo Corp., and 15% by Sumikin Bussan.
