SSAB Wraps Up Pickling Line Upgrade
12/13/2018 - Swedish steelmaker SSAB has completed a SEK370 million (US$40.9 million) project to modernize the entry section on its Hämeenlinna Works pickling line, the company said Thursday.
In a statement, SSAB said the project will enable greater output of advanced coated strip steel for the automotive industry. Work included upgrades to the mechanical, electrical and automation systems, an entry section control room and mill scale dust removal equipment. A new laser welder also was installed.
“The new laser welding machine enables demanding steel grades used by the automotive industry to be welded more smoothly. The scalebreaker improves pickling line performance, thereby making the entire process more efficient,” said SSAB executive vice president Olavi Huhtala.
