SSAB Wraps Electrical Equipment Upgrade
01/17/2023 - SSAB recently completed an upgrade to its Montpelier, Iowa, mill, making an improvement to the rectifier serving the facility’s DC electric arc furnace, the contractor on the project has said.
According to AMI Automation, SSAB added a DigiFCR® X4 controller, which is designed for large power rectifiers.
“DigiFCR X4 is more than a current regulator and has been designed by AMI to control any brand of DC EAF rectifiers, offering advanced controls, high speed response, expanded diagnostics tools beyond conventional capabilities and remote monitoring,” AMI Automation said in a statement.
In the next phase of work, AMI Automation will upgrade the controls and firing boards of the mill’s existing static VAR compensator using a DigiFCR SVC with the same technological platform as the DigiFCR X4, it said.
