SSAB Trims Payroll In Sweden, Pares Office Jobs
05/02/2016 - Swedish steelmaker SSAB has concluded negotiations with employees over proposed layoffs and will cut 262 office jobs from its Nordic operations, the company has announced.
SSAB said in February that it would look to cut positions to eliminate overlap arising from its merger with Rautaruukki in July 2014 and to streamline operations on account of market overcapacity and the resulting low prices.
SSAB said the decision affects 169 in Borlänge, 72 in Oxelösund and 20 in Luleå. The cuts will be made through layoffs and through attrition.
The company also is continuing to negotiate layoffs of 150 production jobs at its Oxelösund mill. Those discussions are to conclude this month.
