SSAB Trims 183 Positions at Swedish Plate Mill
06/03/2016 - Sweden’s SSAB is cutting 183 jobs at its heavy plate mill in Oxelösund, the steelmaker has announced.
The company said it will cut 98 permanent, front-line jobs through layoffs and attrition at the mill. It also will eliminate 85 temporary positions.
In February, the company announced that it had launched negotiations on a plan to cut its Nordic workforce by 465. Of the total, the company was prepared to cut 150 front-line positions at Oxelösund, it said.
The company also is cutting approximately 50 office jobs in Finland and 260 in Sweden.
SSAB officials have said the job cuts were prompted by its merger with rival special steelmaker Rautaruukki in July 2014 and by the imposition of additional efficiency measures, it said.
