SSAB Sets Price Tag on Mill Fire at More Than US$10 Million
06/20/2018 - A transformer fire that damaged SSAB’s Hämeenlinna mill in Finland is expected to cost the company somewhere between SEK100 and SEK120 million (between US$11.2 million and US$13.5 million) in repairs and lost deliveries, the steelmaker said.
The fire occurred 12 June at the cold rolling mill, which was to have been put back into service last weekend, albeit it at a reduced operating rate.
"The situation is expected to return to normal in approximately five weeks. Production will be increased in the cold rolling mill in Borlänge (Sweden) to compensate as much as possible for the reduced production in Hämeenlinna," the company said.
