SSAB Schedules Coke Battery Rehab
03/05/2020 - Paul Wurth has been chosen to revitalize the coke oven battery at SSAB’s Luleå plant in Sweden, the supplier has announced.
According to Paul Wurth, the revamp has two aims: to extend the life of Luleå’s 54-oven battery and to reduce carbon emissions.
To that end, Paul Wurth will replace the entire raw gas system, including the ascension pipes, goosenecks, the gas-collection main and off-takes. It also will undertake roof work, replacing the charging machine rails, the transversal tie rods and some refractory layers.
In addition, the company will install its patented Single Oven PREessure Control (SOPRECO®) system for emissions reduction.
The company and SSAB inked the deal on 31 January. Preparation for the project will kick off this summer, but the official construction will begin in the summer of 2021.
