SSAB Revises Portfolio, Adds New Products
04/18/2016 - Sweden’s SSAB is revising its product portfolio, introducing new products and rolling out five new brand families that group products by their use.
“Customers want to know what a product can offer, so it makes sense to group our products according to how they are used,” said Olavi Huhtala, head of SSAB Europe, in a statement. “This will make it much easier to identify the right product for the right application.”
The five families are: SSAB Domex, SSAB Boron, SSAB Form, SSAB Laser Plus and SSAB Weathering. They are made up of both recently developed steels and products from previous groupings.
The company said its acquisition of Rautaruukki Corp. has resulted in a restructuring of SSAB’s steel portfolio. Recent new offerings, the new family groupings and an upcoming relaunch of its Docol brand for the automotive industry will complete the new portfolio, SSAB said.
Separately, the company has announced that it has created a new grade designed for wear resistance at high temperatures – in the 300 to 500 degrees Celsius range. Called Hardox HiTemp, the grade is a takeoff of its Toolox grade, which it had been recommending for high-temperature wearing applications.
“Even though Toolox performs well from a technical point of view, it is mainly intended for demanding tooling applications. For example, forming molten brass, aluminum and glass,” SSAB said.
The company said the Hardox grade will be available beginning in September.
Additionally, the company is launching a line of coated steel for exterior building applications. Called GreenCoat, most of the products in the line feature a bio-based alternative that replaces substantial amounts of fossil-based components in the coatings.
“Our bio-based GreenCoat products for roofing, facades and rainwater systems are the only products on the market offering a high bio-renewable content in the coating. We like to say that our products are enhanced by nature, since the coating not only offers environmental advantages, but also increased performance,” said Huhtala.
