According to Primetals Technologies, the project at SSAB’s Hämeenlinna facility in Finland entails replacement of an obsolete level 2 process automation system. The work will take place over a few days during a planned outage in November.

“More precise, coordinated setpoints for threading and tailing out reduce off-gauge lengths. The system features ESXi virtualization and is therefore hardware neutral. Simulation on virtual machines enables calculations for new steel grades, thus giving the new solution Industry 4.0 capability,” Primetals Technologies said.

The 4-stand cold mill can roll strip in widths of between 660 mm and 1,575 mm down to gauges between 0.35 mm and 3.1 mm.
