SSAB Calls Off Development of Hydrogen Reduction Plant
11/03/2023 - SSAB and Finnish energy company Fortum are dropping plans for a hydrogen-reduced sponge iron plant in Raahe, Finland, the steelmaker has said.
According to SSAB, the decision comes as the two sides could not find a commercial arrangement that would work for them. As a result, a front-end engineering design study that was launched in June has concluded.
“Exploring the Raahe option with Fortum was one alternative among others,” the company said. “SSAB is continuing to work on the green transition of its Nordic strip production according to plan and the conclusion of the FEED study will not affect this.”
