Special Steel Manufacturer Puts New Extrusion Press into Service
05/31/2017 - Less than 24 months after signing a contract for a new tube extrusion press, Korean special steel maker SeAH Changwon Integrated Special Steel has commissioned the equipment, the equipment supplier on the project has announced.
According to SMS group, the press has an annual capacity of 35,000 tons and is designed to handle austenitic steels, duplex and super duplex alloys and nickel-based alloys. SMS said the new equipment will allow the steelmaker to offer a wider range of diameters, wall thicknesses and extruded lengths.
“We wanted to become more productive. We are sure that we will achieve this with our new extrusion line. Moreover, the extended range of products will allow us to open up new customer segments,” said CSS corporate senior manager Kang Seung-Hoon in a statement.
As part of the contract, SMS delivered a multi-stage IAS induction heating plant; a vertical, 20-meganewton piercing press; a 50-meganewton extrusion press; and the runout facilities.
The contract was signed in July 2015, and the first tube was extruded in January, SMS said.
