South Korean Steelmaker Slates Bar Mill Improvements
09/18/2018 - South Korea’s Daehan Steel Co. Ltd. has contracted SMS group to replace a bar mill quenching line at its Sinpyeong works and make other improvements, the equipment supplier has announced.
In a statement, SMS group said the goal of the project is to expand the mill’s product offerings and reducing reliance on ferroalloys in its billet.
“The modernization project will comprise the replacement of the existing quenching line with a new one designed with latest technology from SMS group, including systems for precise pressure control and exact setting of the water flow rates,” the company said. “In addition, two dividing shears with associated pinch rolls and a bar braking system will be supplied, as well as a HSD (High-Speed Delivery) line that will be integrated into the existing cooling bed.”
The mill is capable of producing rebar in 16 mm to 32 mm diameters up to grade SD 500. Once the project is completed, the mill will be able to roll 13 mm rebar and produce products in grades up to SD600.
