Solar Developer Gets OK for Big River Generation Facility
10/06/2022 - The Arkansas Public Service Commission has approved a 250-MW solar farm that will provide power to United States Steel Corporation’s expanding Big River Steel plant.
In a statement, project developer Lightsource bp said the solar facility, which will occupy 2,100 acres adjacent to the Big River plant in Osceola, Ark., USA, will be the largest such facility in Arkansas. Work is to be completed in late 2024.
Lightsource bp has completed development and permitting of the solar field and will build the facility under a build-transfer agreement with Entergy Arkansas.
U. S. Steel senior vice president and chief strategy and sustainability officer Richard Fruehauf said the power produced by the solar facility will support production of the company’s branded green steel verdeX, and other products at Big River.
