Through the project, an existing reversing 3-high stand in the semi-continuous mill will be replaced by a 6-compact-stand continuous roughing mill in a V-H configuration. In addition, a new crank shear and two additional compact stands, also in a V-H configuration, will be installed in front of the existing continuous finishing stands. 

Another crank shear will be installed on the delivery side of the bar mill, allowing for cutting of larger and smaller cross-sections at speeds of up to 10 mm per second. SMS also will install a modular walking beam furnace.

SMS said the goal of the project is to improve product quality and rolling efficiency. SMS will supply all of the mechanical, thermal and electrical components and the automation system and oversee installation and commissioning, which is scheduled for September of this year.
