SMS to Build Continuous Mill For Omanese Steelmaker
10/28/2016 - SMS group has won a contract to build a continuous rebar mill in Oman, the company has announced.
The contract with Moon Iron & Steel Co. S.A.O.C. provides for a 140-metric-ton AC electric arc furnace, a 140-metric-ton ladle furnace, a 5-strand billet caster and a fully continuous rolling line. The mill will be capable of annually producing 1.1 million metric tons of rebar of between 8 and 40 mm.
The mill directly links the meltshop and the rolling mill, eliminating the need to reheat billets.
“Rolling takes place without time lag by exploiting the casting heat. CO2-intensive reheating furnaces can be dispensed with,” the company said.
The rolling mill will be equipped with 14 stands arranged in horizontal and vertical configuration, followed by two high-speed finishing blocks with six V-type mill stands each. The roughing and intermediate trains are designed as HL housingless stands.
SMS group also will supply complete electrical and automation packages with level 1 and level 2 process controls.
