SMS Siemag Revamps Converter for Salzgitter Flachstahl
01/09/2014 - Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH, Germany, has successfully put into operation a new converter vessel supplied by SMS Siemag for converter A at the Salzgitter steelworks.
In order to essentially improve the metallurgical process, the specific volume of converter A was increased by approximately 25%. Thanks to the lamella system developed by SMS Siemag, the available installation space is now more efficiently used. The lamella system provides maintenance-free suspension of the converter based on a restraint-free arrangement of the converter vessel in the trunnion ring.
The scope of supply by SMS Siemag consists of a converter vessel with tilt drive, vessel suspension with lamellas, converter bearings and bearing pedestals, enclosure for the secondary dedusting system (doghouse) and installation.
Salzgitter Flachstahl also ordered a mechanical relining device with telescopic lifting system, which will considerably simplify the refractory lining process in the future. Commissioning of the relining device is scheduled for January 2014.
