SMS Siemag Replaces Ladle Turret at Salzgitter's Continuous Caster

SMS Siemag had developed a tailor-made installation concept, which did not interfere with the ongoing production of the neighboring plants during the revamp. Thomas Müller, plant manager of the steelworks of SZFG, is satisfied with the result: “Considering the complexity and the special requirements, the revamp worked out excellently.”

Due to the space and logistical conditions, the entire ladle turret had to be preassembled on the mill floor level. Thus the ladle turret, weighing 340 tons in total, was replaced in one piece. The installation concept developed by SMS Siemag resulted in a successful and speedy modernization.

SMS Siemag supplied all mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components and completed all erection and commissioning work in a very short time.

At its Salzgitter works, SZFG operates four continuous casting machines, all of which were supplied by SMS Siemag. The continuous caster No. 2 was erected by SMS Siemag in 1973.
