SMS Siemag Commissions ARCCESS EAF for OMZ
07/07/2009 - SMS Siemag commissions a 120-tonne ARCCESS electric arc furnace for OMZ, Uralmash-Izhora Group, Russia.
SMS Siemag AG, on behalf of Forpost Management, has successfully commissioned a 120-tonne ARCCESS® electric arc furnace for OMZ, Uralmash-Izhora Group, Russia.
With an annual capacity of 600,000 tonnes, the new X-Melt EAF is capable of producing a wide product range, from structural steels to quality steels as well as high-quality rotor and reactor steel grades for nuclear power stations and the chemical industry. It was erected in the modernized shops of OMZ Special Steels, Izhorskiye Zavody.
Optimized for highly efficient utilization of electrical power, the ARCCESS-series EAF is equipped with future-oriented burner and oxygen-injector technologies that help to facilitate high productivity and low production costs. SMS Siemag’s supply scope comprised the electric arc furnace with addition supply system, gas cleaning plant and the X-Pact® electrical and automation package.
Commissioning of the modernized steelworks was attended by the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and by high-ranking representatives of Gazprombank, Forpost Management (as the purchaser) and OMZ (as the user).
X-Melt is an SMS Siemag trademark from the Steelmaking Division.
