SMS Meer to Upgrade Vítkovice Tube Mill

VVT-Vítkovice Válcovna Trub, Ostrava, Czech Republic, has placed an order with SMS Meer for the supply of a sizing mill, rotary hearth furnace, and reheat furnace as part of the company’s existing 14-inch hot rolling mill.
 
The plant will be used to produce up to 100,000 tonnes per year of seamless tubes ranging from 168.0 to 406.4 mm in diameter and with wall thicknesses up to 60 mm. Material grades up to high-alloy steel will be rolled.
 
The six-stand sizing mill will be equipped SMS Meer’s FPS (Flexible Precision Sizing) technology, and will feature adjustable roll stands for the production of tubes with very precise diameter tolerances. The roll stands will also feature sliding shafts to facilitate quick roll changes.
 
SMS Meer’s scope of supply and services comprises the key mill components plus the furnace equipment, including electrical equipment, media systems, and technology. SMS Meer will also provide supervision of erection and commissioning, including training of the operating personnel.
 
Commissioning is scheduled for June 2008.
