SMS Meer to Supply Fifth Ring Rolling Machine to Euskal Forging
09/27/2013 - Euskal Forging from Sestao, Spain, has ordered a fifth ring rolling machine from SMS Meer of Germany. The new machine will be the second most powerful ring rolling machine that SMS Meer has ever built.
With the new radial-axial ring rolling machine, the Spanish company is extending its production spectrum to rings of up to 50 tons in weight with a maximum ring diameter of 10 meters and a maximum ring height of 1,700 millimeters.
The machine of type RAW 1000 (1250) / 1000 (1250) has modern ancillary equipment with which, for example, tower flanges for wind turbines can be efficiently and cost-effectively produced as profiled rings. The Spanish company is thus meeting the market demands for ever larger rings for tower flanges, as higher wind turbines with larger generators of up to 7.5 MW are needed, particularly for the offshore sector. Also the diameters of the rotors are steadily increasing.
"The machines and plants from SMS Meer are of a very high quality. They are precise, sturdy and flexible," commented Mikel Redin Pérez de Nanclares, owner of Euskal Forging.
Commissioning is scheduled for the first quarter of 2015.
