SMS Meer to Supply Closed-Die Forging Presses for Baoji Fast Gear

Baoji Fast Gear Co. Ltd. has placed an order with SMS Meer, Germany, for two fully automated 5,000-tonne closed-die forging presses for its works in Baoji in the province of Shaanxi.

Designed as a fully automated eccentric press with automatic walking beam and spraying technology, the two AMP 5000 type forging presses are particularly suitable for the forging of gear components. Baoji Fast Gear will use them to forge truck gear wheels without flashes at a forged-piece weight of up to 14 kg. Each press can forge up to 25 parts per minute.

The forging presses are operated via PLCs for the operation and monitoring of the machines. In addition to the two forging presses, SMS Meer will also supply the die design and the entire process knowhow.

For SMS Meer’s Closed-Die Forging Presses Product Unit, the order from China for the two fully automated presses represents a new reference project in the Chinese automotive sector. The plants are scheduled to go into operation in mid-2012.
