SMS Meer to Provide Vallourec Star with Cross-Roll Piercing Mill
06/18/2013 - SMS Meer has received an order from Vallourec Star (previously V&M Star) for the delivery of a cross-roll piercing mill for the multi-stand pipe mill (MPM) at its Youngstown site in Ohio.
SMS Meer has received an order from Vallourec Star (previously V&M Star) for the delivery of a cross-roll piercing mill for the multi-stand pipe mill (MPM) at its Youngstown site in Ohio, USA. This will enable the company to boost the product quality and reduce the maintenance efforts of the plant.
In addition to a cross-roll piercer the scope of the order also includes electrical equipment and basic automation plus transportation and handling equipment and a billet end centering unit.
Features of the new barrel-type piercer are enhanced rigidity, an up-to-date disk arrangement and an exit side with the latest generation of three-roller guide pedestals.
As part of its scope of services, SMS Meer takes over supervision of erection and commissioning as well as training of operating personnel.
The Youngstown plant is Vallourec’s main production facility in the U.S. for hot-rolled seamless tubes, used mainly for the oil and gas exploration.
Installation of the new equipment is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2014.
