SMS Meer to Provide PQF Seamless Tube Plant for Anhui Tianda
01/03/2008 - SMS Meer will supply a new 500,000 tonnes/year seamless tube plant featuring PQF technology to Anhui Tianda Oil Pipe of China.
Chinese tube producer Anhui Tianda Oil Pipe Co. Ltd. has placed an order with SMS Meer to supply a new 500,000 tonnes/year seamless tube plant.
Equipped with SMS Meer’s own PQF® (Premium Quality Finishing) technology, the new plant will produce a maximum tube diameter of 9-5/8 inches. The comprehensive PQF plant solution will comprise key components of the rolling mill equipment, including media systems and complete automation, as well as complete engineering, project management, erection supervision and commissioning, and hands-on training of the operating personnel.
With its new PQF-driven plant, Anhui Tianda Oil Pipe will be able to roll thin walls within very close tolerances, and to reduce material and energy consumption during production. The mill will also provide the potential for producing higher material grades and greater flexibility in the rollable dimensions.
Commissioning of the new tube mill is scheduled for 2009.
Worldwide, the output of PQF tubes will reach 4 million tonnes in 2008, just five years after the technology was introduced in 2003. SMS Meer continues to enhance the technology with the hydraulically adjusted three-roll arrangement. For example, the latest-generation technology, which will be installed at Anhui Tianda, has a maintenance-friendly modular design that allows standstill times to be shortened and productivity to be increased. The newest version of the technology also further improves the wall thickness tolerance of the finished tube.
