Weiqiao Textile Group, China, has placed an order with SMS Logistiksysteme GmbH for a high-bay store and coil conveyor system to be implemented in an aluminum production facility the company is investing in at Shandong Weiqiao Aluminum & Electricity Co. in Zouping, in the Shandong province.
The high-bay store and coil conveyor system will help to ensure the secure transport and storage of coils produced in the hot rolling mill that will be subjected to further processing in the cold rolling mill and strip processing lines.
SMS Logistiksysteme’s scope of supply comprises the complete system for transporting the coils from the hot strip mill to storage, as well as to and from the cold rolling mill and finishing areas. SMS Logistiksysteme will also supply three stacker cranes for the high-bay store.
While the coils are moved by pallet transport systems in the rolling mills, two automatic coil transporters (ACT®) are used to take them from the store to the strip processing lines. These transport vehicles use a laser navigation system to travel along fixed routes within the plant.
In addition to supply of the core equipment, the scope of supply also includes complete planning of the logistics systems, engineering of the high-bay storage system (including wall and roof structures), and a cooling system for cooling coils in the store.
SMS Logistiksysteme also will supply the warehouse management system for material tracking and coordinating all coil transport operations from the hot rolling mill to the packaging line.
Although the less complex transport machinery is to be manufactured in China under SMS Logistiksysteme supervision, Shandong Weiqiao has specified that the main components such as the stacker cranes, ACT vehicles and the entire automation system are to be delivered from Europe.
With an overall length of 290 meters, the high-bay store has enough space for around 1400 coils. All the storage locations are designed for a maximum coil diameter of 2800 mm and a coil weight of 30 tonnes.
Start-up of the high-bay store and transport system is scheduled for April 2013.
SMS Logistiksysteme GmbH is a company of the SMS Group, which is, under SMS Holding GmbH, a group of companies internationally active in plant construction and mechanical engineering for the steel and nonferrous metals industry.
