SMS Innse to Supply PQF Tube Plant for Baotou Steel

08/27/2009 - Baotou Steel International Economic & Trading Co. places order with SMS Innse to supply a new 159-mm Premium Quality Finishing seamless tube plant.

Baotou Steel International Economic & Trading Co. Ltd. recently placed an order with SMS Innse SpA, Milan, Italy, for the supply of a new 159-mm Premium Quality Finishing (PQF®) seamless tube plant.
 
The new plant will be capable of producing tube diameters ranging from 38.0 to 159.0 (168.3) mm in steel grades ranging from carbon steel to high-alloy steels up to 13% Cr. It will have the capacity to produce 400,000 tonnes of tubes per year.
 
The SMS scope of supply comprises design and manufacture as well as supervision of erection and commissioning for the tube rolling line’s main mills, including a cone-type piercer, the PQF, extractor and a stretch reducing mill.
 
SMS Innse is collaborating with SMS Meer, Germany, for supply of Baotou Steel’s seamless tube plant. SMS Meer, which is SMS group’s center of competence for tube plants, will supply the cone-type piercer and stretch-reducing mill areas.
 
SMS Innse will supply the PQF area and the Computer Aided Rolling Technology Application (CARTA®) automation control. SMS Innse will also provide the level-2 automation system, e. g. for the order-specific process data for the PQF.
 
The new plant is scheduled to produce its first pipe within 22 months.
