According to SMS group, the mill will be designed to roll both casting blocks and small slabs of up to 960 mm in thickness into plate.

“This will make production flexible and dynamic and ensure tightest geometrical tolerances,” the company said.  

The reversing 4-high mill will be capable of exerting 109 MN of force and come equipped with an edger. 

“A high rolling force and a correspondingly high forming capacity characterize the four-high stand. The combination of a very large roll gap opening with the coaxial CVC®plus system (Continuously Variable Crown) is a new development and allows the rolling stock to have an input thickness of up to 960 mm and thus an extremely large product range,” SMS group said. 

The mill is being designed for annual production of 700,000 metric tons and will produce plates between 5 mm and 120 mm thick and 1,550 mm to 4,200 mm wide.
