According to SMS group, the contract primarily provides for the maintenance and repair of CSP® NEXUS continuous caster molds and containment segments. SMS group is the mill’s primary equipment supplier. 

SMS group said the thin-slab caster has a metallurgical length of more than 82 feet and will enable SDI to produce thin slab in thicknesses of up to 5.5 inches. The caster design is based on a vertical mold and first segment followed by bow and horizontal segments, SMS group said. 

SDI plans to begin commissioning the new mill by the mill by the middle of next year, SMS group said.
