The upgrade was able to be carried out during the facility’s regular annual shutdown without the need for additional downtime.
 
The new automation system features X-Pact^® Embedded controllers and a high-speed EtherCAT I/O system, according to SMS group. The scope of supply included state-of-the-art X-Pact electrical engineering and automation technology.
