SMS group Receives Final OK on Bar Mill Improvements
10/05/2018 - Spain’s Sidenor Aceros Especiales has signed the final acceptance certificate on upgrades to a bar mill at its Basauri plant, reports the equipment supplier on the project.
According to SMS group, the upgrades include a new six-stand continuous roughing mill in VH arrangement; a walking beam furnace with associated entry and exit equipment; two flying shears; and two additional compact rolling stands just upstream of the finishing mill.
“The upgrade was aimed at ensuring more effective rolling operations, increasing the initial pass section, raising rolling speeds and improving the material properties. SMS group’s scope of supply included all process facilities, the automation system, and the entire erection and commissioning,” the company said.
The plant produces round bars in diameters from 29 mm to 100 mm using high-grade carbon steels, low- and high-alloy quality steels and tool steels, roller bearing steels, and stainless steels. Its markets include the automotive, oil and gas, and the machine and plant engineering sectors.
