SMS group Lands Contract for US$1.9 Billion Sheet Mill
07/24/2019 - Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI) has selected SMS group to build its planned US$1.9 billion flat-rolled mill in Texas, the equipment supplier revealed on Wednesday.
In a statement, SMS said it will equip the entire 3-million-ton sheet plant, outfitting it with two DC electric arc furnaces; two twin-ladle furnaces and a double vacuum tank degasser; a Compact Strip Production® thin-slab caster and 8-stand rolling mill; a 5-stand pickling line/tandem cold mill; a skinpass mill; and a continuous galvanizing line.
“The leading position in technology and the long-standing partnership between SDI and SMS group were the decision-making factors for awarding the order to SMS group,ˮ SDI chief executive Mark Millett said in a statement.
The mill is being set up to produce strip in thicknesses from 0.047 inch to 1 inch and in widths of up to 84 inches.
“With this new plant for SDI, SMS group will again make a statement for cost-efficient production paired with higher throughput and better quality,” said Cosimo Cecere, SMS group’s head of sales and project management for CSP plants.
