According to SMS group, the vertical bending caster at Nucor’s Brandenburg, Ky., USA, facility will be able to produce slabs up to 124 inches wide and in thicknesses of between 8 and 12 inches. It is being designed to produce 1.6 million tons of steel slab annually. 

SMS said the caster will be equipped with electromagnetic stirring, casting platform robotics and an HD mold with fiber optics. 

“In addition, a customized roller apron, a quenching unit and a secondary cutting line will also be incorporated,” it said.
