SMS group Installs New Welding Line at Russian Pipe Works
01/27/2016 - Russia’s Gazpromtrubinvest has commissioned a 16-inch, high-frequency pipe-welding line at its Volgorechensk pipe works, according to the supplier on the project.
According to the supplier, SMS group, the line has an annual capacity of 300,000 tons and will make oil and gas well casings with outer diameters of between 127 mm and 426 mm and in grades ranging from API 5CT to N80.
SMS said the line features a cross-welding table that includes the PERFECT arc welding technology; URD (Uniform Rigidity Design) forming and sizing stands; an EloweldTM 1200 solid-state HF generator; and a 2,800 kW EloSeam MF seam-annealing unit.
SMS said the line was designed to be flexible and efficient, incorporating in-line and off-line quick-change systems in combination with the horizontally replaceable URD stands.
“The high rigidity of the URD stands is a key requirement for reliably achieving the extremely exacting tolerances specified for those high-grade, thick-walled casing products. The CSS Quicksetting system, which supports the quick-change system by operating with database supported settings, will lead to a constant improvement in product quality and speed up product changes as the rolls can be set automatically and with a high degree of reproducibility,” the company said in a statement.
It said size changes can be made in less than two hours.
Another of the line’s features is its individual roll drives -- the top and bottom rolls of all main stands can be driven and controlled separately.
“This design has very positive effects on the quality and the line speed, and hence on the productivity of the entire plant.”
