In a statement, SMS group said the walking beam reheat furnace will be capable of handling slabs ranging in weights from 3.1 metric tons to 62 metric tons, making it the largest reheat furnace it has ever built in terms of capacity.

“The new furnace will include a broad range of innovations with the combination of SMS DigiMod combustion management system, SMS ZeroFlame burners and SMS GeniusCM® system for predictive maintenance ensuring very good results in terms of low fuel consumption, reduced scale formation and (low emissions),” the company said in a statement.

In addition to the furnace, the order includes roller tables, a water treatment system and a level 2 automation package.

Start-up is scheduled for early 2021.
