SMS group Contracted to Upgrade ArcelorMittal Re-Heat Furnaces
11/13/2019 - ArcelorMittal Asturias is upgrading the walking beam furnaces at its Aviles hot strip mill with new burners, according to the project contractor, SMS group.
In a statement, SMS group said it will equip the Aviles mill’s 2N, 3N and 4N reheat furnaces with its EcoFlame Plus dual fuel burners, allowing for combustion of both natural gas and BOF gas. The furnaces currently use coke oven gas.
“This solution will guarantee more efficient combustion and optimal flame mix, resulting in a reduction of NOx emissions. These modifications will enable ArcelorMittal to drastically reduce NOx emissions to lower than 150 mg/Nm3 and decrease global CO2 emissions,” the company said.
SMS group said the 22 burners on each furnace are to be replaced.
