The wire rod mill is part of the special bar quality plant originally supplied by SMS group in 2013. The modernization will be undertaken to allow Kardemir to produce more compact coils for transport and container shipping. 

To that end, a new ring distribution system will reduce outside coil diameters from 1,080 mm to 1,040 mm and inside diameters from 850 mm to 820 mm. The modernization will therefore include a loop laying head, a coil forming chamber, a new laying pipe holder and a resized laying pipe. 

The wire rod mill produces rod in diameters between 5.5 mm and 25 mm. It is part of a 700,000-metric-ton SBQ mill that produces bar, bar-in-coil and wire rod. The mill is designed to roll steels ranging from high-carbon, prestressed concrete wire and cold-heading steels to ball bearing and free-cutting steels.
