In a statement, SMS group said the mill, which will utilize its Compact Cold Mill design, will have an annual capacity of about 550,000 metric tons. It is being designed to roll a variety of higher-end steels, including high-carbon and duplex steels, chrome-manganese alloyed steels and silicon steels.

It will process strips in widths of between 750 mm and 1,570 mm and in thicknesses of between 0.6 mm  and 5 mm. The minimal achievable final thickness will be 0.23 mm, the company said. 

SMS said the mill will be equipped with one payoff and two reversing reels.

“Both rolling stands will be realized in 4-high design. It will be possible to operate the mill with work roll sets of two different diameters,” SMS said.

The mill is expected to enter service in 2020.
