SMS Elotherm to Modernize Galvanizing Line for Wuppermann Staal

Wuppermann Staal Nederland B.V. in Moerdijk has placed an order with SMS Elotherm, Germany, to modernize the strip galvanizing line originally delivered in 2000.

As part of the upgrade, SMS Elotherm will add an inductive booster heating system that will enable Wuppermann to increase its productivity by 30%. In addition to the 3,600-kW induction plant with two strip coils, SMS Elotherm will also supply new components for the existing plant and integrate the line controller into the overall process. Erection and commissioning as well as training of the customer’s personnel also form part of the order.

The new inductive booster heating system at the tower entry will raise the ingoing temperature from the pickling line by approximately 150°C. The strip temperature will be further increased to process temperature using existing plant power.

The inductive booster heating plant for strip galvanizing is designed for strip thicknesses from 0.8 to 4.0 mm and a strip width of up to 1660 mm.

Wuppermann has planned a 15-day standstill for installation and commissioning. The start of production after the installation of the booster heating plant is scheduled for the beginning of 2012.
